Java 8 Developer - FinTech Start-up – Old Street, London - Up to £80,000 + Stock options

Our client is an open-source fintech startup building an exciting, new product that allows firms to understand and optimise the costs associated with their trading activity, and reveals how they compare with their peers.

Powering this, is a new, hosted technology stack that they are building from the ground up to take full advantage of the security, scalability and resilience of the cloud. This is built on their award-winning, open source market risk-foundations and they are looking for a talented Java back-end developer to help them bring this product to market.

They are still a small company, where each individual makes a huge difference. As a developer, you can expect to be involved in the technology behind every aspect of our business – from helping to test new ideas with prospective customers, through to implementing these features in their production-grade service. You will wear many hats to begin with, and will have the opportunity to specialise as they grow.

Their technology stack:

  • Back-end: Java 8, Kotlin, Maven

  • Front-end: Angular 4 (with TypeScript and SASS), ngrx/store, Highcharts

  • Infrastructure: AWS (everything from Lambda to CloudFront), Terraform, Python, Node.js

  • GitHub for their public and private code, and issue tracking

 The role:

  • To build, maintain and help shape their production-grade, Java back-end, including our open source libraries and APIs.

  • To be involved in prototyping potential new functionality, iterating on these with the business and prospective clients.

  • To help the team deliver well-documented, well-tested functionality to specification and on time.

  • To provide a great experience for all users of their software.

  • To provide on-site support and training as necessary.


  • Solid knowledge and extensive experience with Java (including a broad understanding of the Java foundations, memory model, common frameworks and APIs)

  • Fundamentals of Computer Science: data structures, algorithms, algorithmic complexity, and concurrency issues

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Bsc or Msc with a minimum of a 2:1 degree from a top tier university
